The Declaration

YA sci-fi novel The Declaration

As soon as I read the first line of this manuscript, I was utterly hooked. It is one of those books, in fact a trilogy to be exact, that I wish had been published when I was younger.  I would have returned to it again and again; it’s mesmerising and thought provoking with brilliant characters that stay with you long after you’ve put the books down.   And now we get to see this magnificent trilogy brought to life on screen.  I am so proud of Gemma and her deep well of talents.  For sure, the subject of this trilogy fits squarely here on this page and truly breaks boundaries…it aims to answer the question: what if you were given the chance to live forever…what would you choose?

Screen Line to adapt YA sci-fi novel The Declaration

The acclaimed 2007 teen/YA novel by British author Gemma Malley is being adapted into a live-action TV series by Morgan S. Dalibert and Mathieu Lalande.

Screen Line Productions is heading into dystopian teen territory with its next scripted project.

The Banijay France-owned TV label has optioned the rights to develop a live-action TV series based on The Declaration, a popular 2007 sci-fi novel for teens and young adults by British author Gemma Malley.

The Declaration tells the story of 16-year-old Anna, who was born into an overpopulated future where longevity drugs have been invented and it’s illegal to have children. Sent to live in a Surplus Hall—where unwanted kids go to train as servants—her life changes dramatically after the arrival of a new resident named Peter.

Filmmakers Morgan S. Dalibert (AKA) and Mathieu Lalande (New World) are adapting the novel, which is the first in a trilogy. Malley released a sequel to The Declaration called The Resistance in 2009, followed by The Legacy a year later. These books were her first to target a teen audience.

JACKIE: Public, Private, Secret

The power in a writer’s hands can never be underestimated.  Nor can the power of truth.  Nor can the power of empathy.  In a world where everything is documented forever, it is so special to find a writer who looks above and beyond, one who is curious and full of sensitivity and awareness of both individual and societal pressures.

In a Gawker interview J. Randy Taraborrelli muses…

“I think as you get older as a writer, your standards change. When I was a kid, my standard was very simple: If it was true, I put it in my book. That was it. There was no wiggle room to that. I’ve been through enough in my lifetime to realize there has to be more of a standard in biography than just the truth. There has to be an eye toward empathy. There has to be and eye toward understanding interpretation. There’s a lot of nuance that goes into a biography that is bigger than whether or not something is true. When I was a kid, it was a simpler time. Today, I weigh everything on a moral compass. It has to do with: Is it fair? Is it hurtful? Is it going to cause people pain? That’s a big part of my process today that when I was a kid, I never considered.

His New York Times bestselling books on one of the most iconic women of our time JACKIE: Public, Private, Secret comes out in paperback 23 July 2024.

When an accomplished bestselling Author writes a book that can actually shed new light on an iconic subject that has truly been picked over for decades, it’s a break-through worthy of attention.

TINY TRAUMAS

Dr. Meg Arroll’s new book TINY TRAUMAS published by HarperOne in Jan 2024 truly belongs on this page of breaking barriers!

In TINY TRAUMAS Dr. Meg  gives the world a ‘new language’ they can use to talk about as well as process their mental health.

WHEN LITTLE THINGS HAVE BIG IMPACTS…

How are you really feeling? A bit blah,

a little bit meh, or simply ‘I don’t actually know’? You can’t quite put your finger on it, but you just don’t feel like you’re truly participating in your own life?

This is the result of a build-up of life’s psychological scrapes, papercuts and bruises. Emotional blunting, microaggressions, family relationships, childhood humiliations, toxic positivity and gaslighting are all examples of ‘Tiny T’ trauma, the impact of which often leads to problems such as high-functioning anxiety, languishing, maladaptive perfectionism, comfort eating and sleep disturbance.

Tiny T traumas are the experiences that shape our lives. They impact the way we interact with the world around us, and can have the most detrimental effects on our health and wellbeing. Yet so many of us feel guilty for even mentioning them, let alone seeking help for them.

These traumas blur the lines between mental wellness and illness – you feel you’re not quite symptomatic enough to receive a diagnosis or treatment, but you certainly aren’t flourishing. In fact, you’re probably feeling completely overwhelmed and exhausted by life, going through the motions yet never feeling truly OK.

With over 20 years of research and therapeutic experience, Dr. Meg Arroll has developed crucial strategies to Acknowledge, Accept, Act and move on from our Tiny T traumas and the harm they are causing .

Sold to 37 Publishers around the world so far, with Publishers far and wide hailing it as a total mental health game-changer…this book can and will generate a movement allowing readers to ‘Acknowledge, Accept, Act’ and move on from our Tiny T traumas and the harm they are causing.

THE ANSWER

the answer

The Japanese edition (Published by Sunmark) of THE ANSWER by global international bestselling authors Barbara and Allan Pease just came across my desk and I think this is such a provocative, thinking person’s book jacket.  It falls into my breaking barriers mindset.

This book is all about igniting your potential so to have a child on the cover of an adult non-fiction book is a bold and fabulous move on the part of the Publisher for a self help book, in my opinion.

Have a look a this special book and learn all about the RAS (reticular activating system) that sits in each of our brains and when programmed using positive affirmations, visualisation and goal setting is one of the most powerful systems that can help all of us reach our greatest life potential.

Opinion By Dr. Kate Lister inews columnist

Mastering Body Language

This original book BODY LANGUAGE which Allan Pease wrote in 1981 was a ground-breaking book which went on to influence individuals, business leaders and government workers around the world, for generations to come.  In 2004 Barbara and Allan Pease re-wrote the book to bring it up to date and it has gone on to influence thinkers, doers and daters around the world and still going strong two decades later. The book has been doing so well in the United States that Bantam Books decided to continue selling only the hardcover edition, rather than publish a paperback. Why sell the same book for less when the world will buy the foundation book on this subject in hardcover! This book broke so many cultural barriers, so many communication barriers, so many societal barriers…it’s a pure classic and we’re so happy it’s still flourishing in over 50 languages around the world. And if you want to see Barbara and Allan’s course on the subject ‘Mastering Body Language’, head on over to Mindvalley.com for a 3-D version on the subject.
