M.K. Hume
M.K. Hume, MA, PhD. was born in 1948 in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia and was a retired academic when she embarked on her epic Arthuriad cycle of novels, including 12 books and 4 related novellas which were published by Headline in the UK, Simon & Schuster in the US and published in translation in various countries around the world.
The Arthurian legends had followed her for most of her life. From early childhood, when she was first introduced to the prose stories of Tennyson and later fell in love with his poetic skills, her imagination was “hooked” by the Arthurian personae.
To supplement a number of other coincidences, she once lived in a suburb where the streets were named after the knights, whether by accident or happy design, she determined to study the literature of Arthur for her Masters and PhD degrees.
Even her husband shared his first name (Arthur) with the Dux Bellorum (War Leader) of Britain, the hero who played such a large part in defending the Celtic tribes for some forty years.
M.K. Hume’s complete works The Arthuriad consist of a trilogy on King Arthur (Dragon’s Child, The Bloody Cup, and The Warrior of the West) , a prequel trilogy called THE MERLIN PROPHEY (Clash of Kings, Death of an Empire, and Hunting with Gods), THE TINTAGEL CYCLE ( The Blood of Kings, The Poisoned Throne, The Wolf of Midnight), and TWILIGHT OF THE CELTS (The Last Dragon, The Storm Lord, and The Ice King) in addition to 4 novellas in this series.
She has left a legacy that has a legions of admirers around the world. Her cinematic writing continues to transport readers to the ancient and atmospheric Medieval times allowing them to walk in the footprints of the past and leaving her fans enthralled, enraptured and enriched with her gripping, erudite, and readerly novels.
M.K. Hume is survived by her two sons and grandchildren.
